Course Description
As dental restorative material strengths continue to improve, the center of weakness for dental implantology has become the implant-abutment interface. In response dental implant manufactures have modified this connection to prevent abutment screw loosening created by external forces. Crestal alveolar bone loss or “Die Back” has exploited the improved retention of these connections leaving them vulnerable to overloading. This phenomenon can initiate abutment fracture, screw fracture and even implant fractures. A biological osteotomy creating a bedding for implant-abutment synergy can aid in maintaining future crestal bone preservation and formation. Proper bone formation preventing the dreaded “Die Back” of alveolar bone reduces complications ultimately leading to enhanced emergence profiles, increased restorative esthetics and increased dental implant longevity.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the componentry for single and full arch prosthetics
- Learn to develop proper biological osteotomies
- Tools and Techniques to avoid “Die Back” of the bone
- Discover the advantages for developing sub-crestal scalloped osteotomies around implants and their implication to long term success
- Learn how to prosthetically guide implant placement for ideal emergence profiles
