Dental implants have become the standard of care for tooth replacement, yet rising rates of peri-implant disease threaten long-term success and patient health. Based on the principles outlined in Diffuse the Dental Implant Time Bomb, this 2-hour continuing education course equips dental professionals with a comprehensive, evidence-informed approach to identifying, preventing, and managing peri-implantitis through the lens of oral-systemic health. Participants will explore the biological mechanisms linking oral inflammation to systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders, with a focus on how these relationships impact implant outcomes. The course introduces the “Dental Implant Time Bomb” concept—highlighting how undetected inflammation and microbial dysbiosis can silently compromise implant stability and overall health.
Through practical frameworks, including risk assessment tools, inflammatory markers (e.g., CRP), and patient-specific protocols, clinicians will learn how to integrate medical-dental collaboration, salivary diagnostics, and behavior- based patient education into daily practice. Emphasis is placed on early detection, personalized prevention strategies, and long-term maintenance to enhance implant success and reduce systemic risk. By the end of this course, attendees will be able to recognize early warning signs of peri-implant disease, implement protocols to reduce inflammatory burden, and position their practice at the forefront of oral-systemic care—improving both clinical outcomes and patient quality of life.
By the end of the course, clinicians will be able to:
• How gum disease and implants complications increase systemic health risks
• The root causes behind tooth loss, implant failure, and chronic inflammation
• How to prepare the mouth before implant surgery to improve outcomes
• How to track key health markers ( A1c, CRP, Vitamin D) to understand and
reduce risk
• How laser therapy, deep cleaning, and smart home care work together for
long-term success
• How to protect the mouth after surgery to maximize the life of implants
