Andres Guerra
DMD, MDSc
Dr. Andrés Guerra is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with almost two decades of surgical experience and a distinguished academic and clinical background. He has been serving the Tampa Bay community for more than eleven years. As the Owner and CEO of Tersa Oral and Facial Surgery and Tersa Facial Aesthetics & SPA, he provides a comprehensive range of oral and maxillofacial, and also facial cosmetic procedures. Dr. Guerra earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2001, completed his internship and residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical Sciences Campus at the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine. He further advanced his training through a Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute and earned a Master in Dental Science (MDSc) from the University of Puerto Rico in 2011. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology, Dr. Guerra’s expertise is mainly focused in a full scope dento-alveolar surgery—including simple and complex dental implants cases, trauma, complex extractions, bone grafting, full-mouth rehabilitation, management of maxillofacial pathology, with a particular passion for lip cancer and reconstruction. He has held numerous academic and hospital appointments, including at the James A. Haley VA Hospital at Tampa, University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine, and Suncoast Community Health Centers. He is also a faculty member of the School of Dental Medicine at the Ponce Health Sciences University in Ponce Puerto Rico. Dr. Guerra is a Formal Reviewer for the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and an active member of the AAOMS,ACOMS,ADSA,FSOMS, and ADA. He also served as President of the West Pasco Dental Association (2018–2019). His professional record includes scientific publications, lectures, and presentations on topics such as oral cancer surgery, lip cancer, dental implants, complex facial reconstruction, oral and maxillofacial pathology and deep IV sedation for dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures. He is fluent in Spanish, English, and has an intermediate level in Portuguese. Join us for a 3 hour lecture and 2 hour hands on, led by Oral and Maxillo Facial Surgeon, Dr. Andres Guerra.

Dr. Guerra will be discussing the overall benefits of Immediate Implant placement from a dentist and a patient persepctive. He will touch on the indications for Immediate Implant placement, including the ability to gain initial stability in sockets with very little bone present. Dr.Guerra will teach practioners how to identify type, A, B and C extraction sockets and discuss the techniques used in each situation to be able to predictability deliver immediate implants.

Course Objective

By the end of the course, clinicians will be able to:

• Learn the surgical and prosthetic benefits of placing implants at the time of extraction.
• Identify how initial stability can be gained in even molar sites with little to no spetum.
• Understand the role that implant design plays in the ability to gain initial stability.
• Learn the indications and contraindications of immediate implant placement.
